ParaTips
A. BEA AND OTHER SHOWS. Many publishers are led to believe
you shouldn't sell your books at the show. At all shows we attend,
we sell books (we always offer deals). At the most recent BEA we sold
enough books to pay for our booth! Two other side benefits--we didn't
have to pack and lug any books home with us and shows are a lot of fun.

B. THE BROWSER SLOWS THE MAC. (A comment on a news item in our last edition).
it’s the browser--not the computer that’s causing the problem. Explorer
5.1 for OS X has been revised all of once. It’s just an OS X recompile
of the Carbon OS 9 version. It's not native.
Mac owners can go to www.versiontracker.com's OS X tab and search under
"Internet Browser" The Open-source browsers are Cocoa and Native. They
render REALLY FAST but have some issues with M$ specific webisms and some
Java functions.
-- Eloise Cameron
C. OLD BOOKS NEVER DIE. If you are looking for out-of-print books or
want to recapture (purchase) copies of your old books, try these antiquarian
book sites:

ParaThoughts
COMBINE WRITING WITH . . .
Do two things at once.
One way to find time to write is to combine projects—to write while you
are doing something else.
You might dictate on your daily walk, use your laptop when commuting
on public transportation or just think about your title and subtitle in
the shower.
Dianna Booher has mastered the "Interstate Book"; she has written
a couple of books while driving. For example, she dictated the first draft
of the 172-page Clean up Your Act (Warner) driving from city to
city in Florida. Typically, she plans her book with idea wheels
(in sequence and subordination) and then dictates from her outline. When
she returns home, an assistant transcribes the dictation and Dianna begins
the editing process—which may take three times as long.
http://www.BooherConsultants.com
Writing is best combined with projects that do not require concentration
or thought. It is safer taking the train.
"Lost time is never found again." —Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790),
author, printer, scientist and statesman.
